British Nuclear-Capable Trident Missile Test Fails After Submarine Launch Near Florida
The missile reportedly misfired due to an "anomaly" with its booster rockets and crashed into the ocean just yards away from the nuclear submarine.
BRITAIN/FLORIDA - A test of a Trident nuclear-capable missile with a dummy warhead launched from a submarine near the U.S. coast ended in failure, with the missile crashing off the coast of Florida.
The missile reportedly misfired due to an "anomaly" with its booster rockets and crashed into the ocean just yards away from the nuclear submarine.
The launch by Britain was a rare occurrence. The last launch by the country also failed. The missile was launched by the HMS Vengeance in 2016 when it strayed off course.
The British Ministry of Defense said that the Trident missile is the "most reliable weapons system in the world" with over 190 tests that were successful.
The MOD said that the Trident missile system "remains safe, secure and effective," despite the test failure.
