WASHINGTON - According to the United States Capitol Police, they are responding to a suspicious vehicle along First Street, NW, near the Grant Memorial and have advised people to stay away from the area while they investigate.

A man was arrested while attempting to light a vehicle on fire. The Bomb squad has cleared a suspicious vehicle and deemed there to be no ongoing threat but advised to continue avoiding the area.

A man was arrested on multiple charges of Carrying a Dangerous Weapon while attempting to get a machete into the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC).

US Capitol Police update: “The name of the man arrested yesterday is 35-year-old Adrian J. Hinton, of Virginia. He was arrested for Unlawful Activities.”

  • We have responded to a suspicious vehicle along First Street, NW, near the Grant Memorial. Please stay away from this area while we investigate.

  • Our bomb squad has cleared the suspicious vehicle along First Street, NW, near the Grant Memorial. There is no ongoing threat. Please continue to avoid the area, while our officers work to clear the scene. Thank you for your patience.

  • USCP Arrests Man Who Attempted to Light Car on Fire

  • Just after 2:00 p.m., our officers stopped and arrested a man who tried to get a machete into the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC).

  • The man is being arrested for multiple charges of Carrying a Dangerous Weapon. We will provide more information once it is available.
