Cuban Border Guard Troops Engage U.S.-Registered Speedboat in Territorial Waters, Killing Four and Injuring Six

CARIBBEAN — On the morning of February 25, a speedboat registered in Florida, with registration number FL7726SH entered Cuban territorial waters and approached within one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel in Cayo Falcones, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province.
When a surface unit of the Border Guard Troops of the Ministry of the Interior carrying five service members approached the vessel for identification, the crew opened fire on the Cuban personnel, injuring the commander of the Cuban vessel, according to the Cuban Embassy.
In the exchange that followed, the Embassy said that four individuals on the U.S. registered vessel were killed and six were injured. Cuban authorities evacuated the injured and provided medical assistance.
