Japan, South Korea Report Ballistic Missiles Launched By North Korea Toward Sea Of Japan

JAPAN/KOREA - The Japanese Ministry of Defense and South Korean Coast Guard have both reported a ballistic missile launch from North Korea. South Korea and Japan has reported several short-ranged missiles were fired.

The initial statement by the Japanese Ministry of Defense said that it was a “possible” ballistic missile launch, then later confirmed that it was a ballistic missile launch.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense statement said (translated): "A possible ballistic missile was launched from North Korea. We will notify you as soon as we receive further information". 

The South Korean military said that North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the East Sea (Sea of Japan).

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff report several short range missiles were fired from the North Korean capital of Pyongyang.

Additional information on the launch is not yet available. This report will be updated when more information is available on the reported launch.
