In response, the merchant vessel carried out "self-protection measures", after which the small craft fired upon the merchant vessel. The security team aboard the MV then again returned fire, after which the small craft aborted its approach toward the vessel.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the merchant vessel's crew are safe, and that the vessel is proceeding to its next port of call.
