The Russian aircraft stayed in international airspace without crossing into American or Canadian sovereign territory.

The command sent an E-3 airborne warning and control system aircraft, four F-16 fighters, and four KC-135 tankers to identify and intercept them. Such Russian operations happen often in this zone and pose no direct threat.
