Ongoing Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Clashes Follow Airstrikes and Ambush
SOUTH ASIA — Pakistani airstrikes targeted Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) sites in Afghan provinces, including Kabul and Paktika, on October 9-10. These actions followed a TTP ambush near the Afghan border in northwestern Pakistan on October 8 that killed 11 personnel.
The exchanges involved small arms and artillery fire across multiple locations in provinces such as Kunar, Kurram, Bajaur, Dir, Chitral, Baramcha, Helmand, South Waziristan, Nangarhar, and Paktia.
These actions stemmed from mutual accusations regarding territorial violations and support for militant groups. The clashes began late on October 11 with Taliban troops opening fire on Pakistani positions. Pakistani forces countered with gun and artillery fire, targeting Afghan posts.
Intermittent gunfire continued into October 12, particularly in the Kurram area. Taliban operations concluded at midnight local time following requests from Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Pakistan has closed major border crossings, including Torkham and Chaman, as well as minor ones like Kharlachi, Angoor Adda, and Ghulam Khan.
