Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Clashes Continue Amid Retaliatory Fire
Intermittent gunfire continued into October 12, particularly in the Kurram area.
SOUTH ASIA — Taliban forces initiated retaliatory operations against Pakistani border posts following airstrikes conducted by Pakistan earlier in the week.
The exchanges involved small arms and artillery fire across multiple locations in provinces such as Kunar, Kurram, Bajaur, Dir, Chitral, Baramcha, Helmand, South Waziristan, Nangarhar, and Paktia.
These actions stemmed from mutual accusations regarding territorial violations and support for militant groups. The clashes began late on October 11 with Taliban troops opening fire on Pakistani positions. Pakistani forces countered with gun and artillery fire, targeting Afghan posts.
Intermittent gunfire continued into October 12, particularly in the Kurram area. Taliban operations concluded at midnight local time following requests from Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Pakistan has closed major border crossings, including Torkham and Chaman, as well as minor ones like Kharlachi, Angoor Adda, and Ghulam Khan.
