MOSCOW - The Russian Foreign Ministry has commented on recent media reports that the Biden Administration has made the decision to allow Ukraine to use U.S.-provided long-range missiles to attack targets within Russian territory by saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin had already addressed the matter, apparently referencing past comments by Putin that Russia would make “appropriate decisions in response”. Article Edit: The Foreign Ministry has released additional statements.

SJ Reports On Russia/Nuclear

Although a report has surfaced on social media citing Putin as saying that he will use nuclear weapons if missiles or drones are launched into Russian territory has resurfaced on social media, the report is actually from September of this year.

At the end of September, Putin had said that if conventional weapons (long-range missiles) were to be used to strike locations within Russian territory with the support by any nuclear state, that it would be considered a joint attack on the Russian Federation.

“It is proposed that aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state, but with the participation or support of a nuclear state, be considered as their joint attack on the Russian Federation,” Putin said at the time.

“The conditions for Russia’s transition to the use of nuclear weapons are also clearly fixed,” he also said, adding that it would consider the move if Russia were to detect a massive launch of conventional missiles, aircraft or drones on its territory.

In addition, Putin said that Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons if either Russia, or Belarus are the target of the aggression, including by conventional weapons.

The statements are in line with Russia’s nuclear doctrine updated in 2020 that says the country may resort to the use of nuclear weapons both in the event of a nuclear attack, as well as a conventional attack that threatens the existence of the state.

Update: "The use of long-range missiles by Kiev to attack our territory will mean direct participation of the United States and its satellites in hostilities against Russia, as well as a radical change in the essence and nature of the conflict" - Zakharova
