HORN OF AFRICA — On August 29, Somalia’s federal Ministry of Defense stated that the Turkish Navy, working with the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF), had freed the cargo ship MV LATUF after a 10-day operation off Jifle in Eyl District, in Somalia’s Nugaal region.
Pirates hijacked the vessel on August 17 in waters off Jifle, according to the same ministry, which added that those Turkish and Somali forces took full control of the ship and that the vessel has resumed its voyage. The ministry also said the operation destroyed four boats used by the pirates and that 14 pirates died.
