Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran On Recent Strikes:
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Heroic and noble people of Iran,
Fellow Iranians,
Our sacred and beloved homeland, proud and civilization-building Iran, has once again been subjected to criminal military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime.
This morning, on the eve of Nowruz and on the tenth day of the blessed month of Ramadan, the United States and the Zionist regime, in flagrant violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, attacked a range of objectives, defensive infrastructure, and non-military sites in various cities across our country.
This renewed military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran comes even as Iran and the United States were engaged in a diplomatic process. Despite our awareness of their intentions to carry out another act of aggression, we entered negotiations once more to demonstrate to the international community and all nations the righteousness of the Iranian people and the illegitimacy of any pretext for war.
Now, the people of Iran stand firm, having done everything necessary to prevent conflict. The time has come to defend the homeland and confront the enemy’s military incursion. Just as we were prepared for negotiations, we are more ready than ever to defend the essence of Iran. The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will decisively respond to the aggressors with authority.
The aerial attacks by the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran constitute a violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter and an overt armed aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Responding to this aggression is Iran’s legal and legitimate right under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will employ all their capabilities and resources to counter this criminal act and repel the enemy’s malice.
The Islamic Republic of Iran reminds the United Nations and its Security Council of their grave responsibility to take immediate action to confront this violation of international peace and security, and calls on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council, and its members to fulfill their duty without delay.
All member states of the United Nations—particularly regional and Islamic countries, members of the Non-Aligned Movement, and all governments that feel responsible for international peace and security—are expected to firmly condemn this act of aggression and take urgent, collective action to confront it. This aggression has undoubtedly placed the peace and security of the region and the world under an unprecedented threat.
At this moment, when the great test of history has arrived, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, inspired by the epic heritage of this land, relying on Almighty God, with faith in the divine promise of victory, and drawing on national strength, will not hesitate to defend our beloved homeland with all their might.
History bears witness that Iranians have never bowed to foreign aggression or domination. This time too, the response of the Iranian nation will be decisive and resolute, making the aggressors regret their criminal act.
