MIDDLE EAST — The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense reported on May 8 that its air defense systems are actively intercepting missile and drone threats originating from Iran.

The Ministry confirmed that sounds heard in various parts of the country were the result of defense systems engaging and intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones.

The UAE Ministry of Defense and the Supreme Council for National Security issued public alerts directing residents to remain in safe locations, follow official channels for updates, and report any incidents by calling 999.

Authorities advise against approaching, touching, or photographing debris from interceptions. UAE Ministry of Defense updates from earlier in May detail prior engagements attributed to Iran.
