MIDDLE EAST — On October 1 a maritime reporting center received a third-party report that an unknown projectile had struck a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway between Iran and Oman, and that a fire had started.

Locations Affected

  • Strait of Hormuz, between Iran and Oman’s Musandam Peninsula: the October 1 warning and the four earlier reports place the strikes in the strait, including one outbound case in the southern quarter. No strike coordinate was published.

  • Khor Fakkan, United Arab Emirates: the September 29 outbound tanker was reported in the vicinity of this Gulf of Oman port after the strike, with its damage assessment not finished. GeoNames, the gazetteer cited for the city, places Khor Fakkan at 25.33, 56.34.
