SOMALIA - According to a statement by U.S. Africa command on January 7th, 2025, the United States carried out a collective self-defense airstrike against al-Shabaab militants in Beer Xaani, Somalia on December 31st, 2024.

Somalia: Joint Operation By Somali National Army, US Air Force Near Kismayo City Eliminated Over 10 Khawaarijta Al Shabab Terrorists

Somalian Government (translations): "Over 10 alShabab terrorist militants were eliminated by our brave security forces with the help of US Africa Command airstrikes, in Berhano village, approximately 35km from Kismayo town. Key terrorist outposts were destroyed during the operation, and no civilians were harmed."

The statement said, “The initial post-strike assessment indicated the airstrike killed 10 al-Shabaab militants while no civilians were harmed. In addition to the airstrike, U.S. forces provided support to Somali forces by evacuating Soldiers that were attacked while fighting the terrorist group.”
