MIDDLE EAST — The Israeli Defense Forces announced a broad and joint operation with the U.S. Army to deliver a deep strike against Iran. The operation, code-named Roar of the Lion, began by attacking dozens of military targets.

It came as part of a coordinated assault to remove threats to Israel for a long period. The announcement was made by Avichay Adraee, the IDF Arabic Spokesperson.

Avichay Adraee, IDF Arabic Spokesperson (February 28, 2026): “The Defense Forces and the U.S. Army have launched a broad and joint operation to deliver a deep strike against the Iranian terrorist regime and to remove existential threats to the State of Israel for a long period, where the strike began by attacking dozens of military targets and came as part of a broad, coordinated, and joint assault against the regime. The Iranian regime has not abandoned its plan to destroy Israel, as in the recent months and despite the strike it suffered during Operation Rising Lion, the Defense Forces observed the regime continuing its attempts to rebuild its nuclear program, protect and conceal its nuclear projects, and continue funding, training, and arming its terrorist proxies lurking on Israel’s borders. These activities posed an existential threat to the State of Israel and a threat to the Middle East and the world at large. In the months preceding the attack, close joint planning took place between the Defense Forces and the U.S. Army, enabling the execution of the attack with the highest levels of integration and coordination between the two armies. The Defense Forces conducted a prolonged readiness operation across all its formations for battle on both defensive fronts and in various attack plans. The Chief of Staff and Defense Forces commanders are currently assessing the situation, with large forces deployed defensively and in readiness for attack across all fronts and against any enemy. The Defense Forces will continue operating to eliminate any threat forming against Israeli citizens at any time and place.”
