The incident produced thick black smoke visible across the region, including northeast DC suburbs. The Arlington County Fire Department reported it as a gas-powered vehicle fire caused by a malfunctioning engine, not an explosion, countering initial mischaracterizations.

Engine 105 extinguished the fire rapidly, with no injuries to the driver or firefighters and no damage to nearby structures. Cause: Malfunctioning engine.
