8 Chinese Military Aircraft, 5 Vessels Spotted Around Taiwan, Defense Minister: Will Not Wait For China To Make First Move
Taiwan's Defense Minister said on Thursday that Taiwan would not wait for the "first shot" by China, but would not make the first move.
TAIPEI - According to Taiwan's Ministry of Defense 8 Chinese military aircraft and 5 PLA Navy (PLAN) vessels were spotted around the island of Taiwan on March 7th, 2024. The number of military aircraft spotted remains slightly elevated.
Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng said on Thursday that Taiwan's Ministry of Defense would not wait for the "first shot" by China, but instead wait for China to make the "first move", which he said would involve Chinese aircraft or vessels "crossing the boundary", but did not clarify which boundary he was referring to.
Once the PLA has made the first move, the armed forces have the right to counter that first move. We will not make first moves, we will only counter," the Minister stated.
