More Alerts On Middle East Region

The U.S. Secretary of Defense has ordered the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group to remain in the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility (AoR) in support of regional deterrence and force protection efforts, according to the Pentagon on April 1st.

On April 5, 2025, the command released a statement with video evidence of F/A-18 Hornets launching from the carrier, noting, "Our dedicated service members of the Harry S. Truman carrier strike group are on station, launching continuous operations against Iran-backed Houthis."

These operations, along with diplomatic efforts aim to counter Houthi attacks on Red Sea maritime assets, which pose a persistent threat to regional security, the U.S. Department of Defense said in a statement. With a total of 174 reported attacks on merchant vessels since November 2024, the U.S. strikes are part of a broader U.S. effort to deter Houthi aggression, following a pattern of increased military activity in the region.

Separately, Iran joined Russia and China for the "Security Belt-2025" naval exercises in the Gulf of Oman last month, signaling broader regional coordination. Israel increased F-35 patrols over the Golan Heights in early April 2025, while the U.S. deployed two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers to the Eastern Mediterranean on April 1st, signalling heightened alertness amid regional tensions.

The U.S. and Israel aim to deter Iran-backed groups, including the Houthis, to maintain stability in the Middle East. Iran says that is not after war, but is prepared to confront any aggression.
