Israel-Iran Military Escalations: Impact on Arabian Gulf Maritime Security
The Strait of Hormuz remains operational, though navigational challenges persist, particularly near Bandar Abbas.
ARABIAN GULF — Military engagements between Israel and Iran, escalating since 13 June 2025, have heightened regional tensions, impacting maritime security in the Arabian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz (SoH), and Northern Arabian Sea.
The Strait of Hormuz remains operational, though navigational challenges persist, particularly near Bandar Abbas.
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched missile strikes and drone operations targeting Iranian military leadership, nuclear infrastructure, and defense installations, prompting Iran’s retaliatory strikes.
According to the internet observatory NetBlocks on Friday, "Iran has now been largely offline for 60 hours," adding "Metrics show the internet shutdown continues to severely limit the public's ability to express political viewpoints, communicate freely, and follow safety alerts amid ongoing conflict with Israel."
As of June 21st, the regional threat level remains significant, with the maritime threat elevated due to electronic interference and potential conflict spillover. Iran continues to fire ballistic missiles and drones toward Israel as alarms continue to sound across Israel. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) is also continuing to strike missile storage and launching infrastructure within Iran, including the western and central parts of the country.
