MIAMI — A Boeing 767-300 cargo jet operating as 21 Air Flight 7598 for Amazon Air overran Runway 30 at Miami International Airport at about 5:58 p.m. UTC (1:58 p.m. Eastern) on Sunday after a flight from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said.
The airplane left the paved field, struck vehicles, and caught fire. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said five people were killed and five were injured.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Raied “Ray” Jadallah said three of the injured were taken to a trauma center in critical condition and two others were taken to a local hospital.
The Federal Aviation Administration identified the airplane as a Boeing 767-300 that departed San Juan and said 21 Air Flight 7598 overran the runway after landing around 6:00 p.m. UTC (2:00 p.m. Eastern).
