The booklet was initially released during World War II but has been updated to include possible modern-day threats, such as terrorist attacks and cyber attacks, as well as large-scale weather events.

Sweden’s Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin announced that "There could be war in Sweden" during a speech at Folk och Försvars annual national conference in Sälen on the 7th of January 2024

MSB Director Mikael Frisell said of the decision, "The security situation is serious, and we all need to strengthen our resilience to face various crises and ultimately war.”
