The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the aircraft entered its KADIZ and then exited from 9:35 a.m. (0035 GMT) to 1:53 p.m. The JCS added that although the aircraft crossed over into its KADIZ, it did not violate South Korean airspace.

The South Korean military said it "identified the aircraft before they entered KADIZ and deployed Air Force fighter jets to take tactical measures in preparation for any contingencies".

China said its forces were carrying out their "ninth joint strategic patrol" nuclear bomber exercise at the time of the KADIZ incursion. The patrol involved Russian and Chinese military aircraft operating between Japan and South Korea.
