USS Nimitz Carrier Group Headed To Middle East Ahead Of Schedule With Two US Carrier Groups To Be Deployed In The Region As Conflict Intensifies

MIDDLE EAST — The USS Nimitz carrier strike group is headed from the South China Sea to the Middle East ahead of schedule as the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies.
Originally, the carrier group was planned to replace the USS Carl Vinson strike group, which has been deployed to the region since the end of March, after it deployed to the Middle East from Guam to join the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group in the Middle East, but it is now being sent to the region ahead of schedule and is expected to arrive at the end of this week.

Israel has been requesting offensive military aid from the United States in order to target Iranian nuclear facilities, including a plan to assassinate Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which U.S. President Donald Trump vetoed, according to a report by Reuters citing a U.S. official.
